I'm a Math Tutor

So I have never been a official tutor before. I have my teaching degree but have never had the opportunity to teach one on one. Well, this summer I get to tutor Emma. She is Tom's Boss's Daughter :) who will be in the 6th grade next year. It has been so fun to prepare lesson plans and have a job. I have only taught two days but I really look forward to teaching everyday, except sundays, till we leave PA. Hopefully this will be good prep for a teaching job this school year, that is of course if I get hired in time, and good for Emma too!

Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat

So we live near the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to see a play at an old opera house. Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat just happened to be playing! We saw that on Thursday (June 27). The play was really good and the theatre was amazing! It was so old and ornate, reminded me a lot of the Opera House I visited several times in Kiev Ukraine. We found out that Mark Twain gave lectures at the Fulton Theatre, and we just happen to make it to the last show of the 160th year anniversary of the theatre. So Cool!

About The Fulton Theatre
Paraphrased from www.thefulton.org

The Fulton Theatre was built on the foundation of Lancaster's pre-Revolutionary jail, where in 1763, a vigilante gang know as the "Paxtang Boys" massacred the last of the Conestoga Indians being held there for their protection. This was a monumental event throughout the colonies and became the subject matter for the first plays ever written on American soil. The exterior wall of the jail courtyard is now the back wall of the theatre. In 1852 the Lancaster community celebrated the opening of Fulton Hall. From a meeting hall, to the "Queen of the Roadhouses" through Vaudeville, the movies, near destruction, salvation and on to the cutting edge of contemporary theatre, the history of this majestic place chronicles the evolution of the American Stage. Now, 160 years later, we continue to celebrate this treasure of the community.

The Fulton Opera House, considered to be the nation's oldest continuously operating theatre, is one of only eight theaters to be named a National Historic landmark.

Washington DC

On Sunday (June 30th) Tom & I drove Tyler Leavitt to the Dulles Airport, near Washington DC. It was sad to say goodbye to such a fun buddy for Tom. Here is a picture of them outside the Airport. I think they look like they could be brothers.

Then Tom and I drove to the Vienna Virginia metro stop. I was so excited! I hadn't been on a metro since I was teaching english in Ukraine back in 2008. We rode the metro into DC and were able to visit the Holocaust Museum. (pictures will be added soon)

Then we walked around and saw the Washington Monument and The White House, from a distance. Tom got a hot dog from a street vendor (hot dog stand) and then we hopped back on the metro to go see the  huge Lincoln statue. (pictures will be added soon)

It was also neat to see the Washington Monument as it reflected in the reflection pool. Reminded me of Forest Gump, lol...  (pictures will be added soon)

It was raining so we took a taxi, first time ever for me, back to the metro stop a mile away. We rode the Metro back to Vienna and then headed back to Lancaster. It was a lot of fun to spend the day in DC!

East Coast Creatures

So there are lots of cool animals and other live creatures here in Pennsylvania. Obviously it is awesome to live where there are fireflies every evening! They have to be one of God's coolest creations.

Besides that there happen to be bunny rabbits that live here. like you'll be walking around outside, and there is a wild bunny. Soooo.... cute! We went to this huge pet supply store that happened to have the largest rabbit there I have ever seen. It was like twice the size of the dog my family used to have, I think it was called a giant something... lol, I can't remember. Here is a picture.

I have found two baby praying mantises in our apartment, (which happens to be my favorite insect thanks to my Dad :) so that was exciting. I didn't take a picture for some reason, but below is a picture I found on google images.

When Emily and I were driving back from the Baltimore airport we took a pit stop for dinner. As we headed back to the freeway we were surprised when the car in front of us abruptly stopped. We soon found out why. A bunch of Canadian Geese were just standing around in the middle of the busy road.

All together there were two and a half dozen geese (obviously not all in this pic, more flew in after I took this). A lot of cars stopped and just stared. The birds wouldn't move if we honked or drove straight toward them. Several laid down in the road... too funny!

Then while out selling, Tyler found a quarter size turtle. I would have kept the Turtle if I had found it! I can't believe it was so small!

And then I found a toad the other night. I got brave and picked it up and everything. It was super cool! I haven't held a Toad since I was in elementary school.

I am currently trying to decide which pet would be best for my classroom next year. Maybe a turtle or frog would be neat!

Crab Feast

This morning I went with Tom and his work buddies and watched them chow down at a Crab Buffet place. Tom said he ate like 25-30 crabs! The guys were in heaven as they cracked open and ate all that crab meat.

I guess the rule is, all you can eat for up to 2 hours. But at exactly 2 hours they bring a whole other pile of crabs to finish off. So you really kinda have like 3 hours. Crazy!

There were also these huge fresh shrimp. Look at how they compare to the crab in size!

Here are some candid pics of the guys chowing down...

Watching those guys, was a lot of fun. I'm glad I was able to take pictures of this great memory. And I know Tyler  & Tom were glad too (in the pictures above).

Pennsylvania Update

Sorry, that it has taken me so long to add to this Blog. I am honestly, just not used to having a Blog. But, I intend to do better.

So Tom has been working REALLY hard to make sells this summer. So far he has made 9 sales, I think. His goal is 40 or 50 so we still have a ways to go. I am so proud of him! I could never imagine knocking doors from 1 to 9 every day, but he really enjoys it. Hey, if you know anyone around Lancaster PA who wants a good security system, let me know. Tom is the best person to hook you up.

So, since I have soooooooooo much free time. I have been working on a couple projects. I started this stocking for Tom around October, but on christmas eve at like 2 am I just gave up... lol... There was still like 20 hours of work left to do. Anyways, I brought it up here and finally finished it. I think I might start one soon for my first child. I don't know when I will be bearing a child, but these stocking take so stinking long that I should probably get a head start.

Tom and I found this really cool park a couple days ago. I thought the many playgrounds were super cool! Especially since they had sweet old-school kid stuff. I can't lie, I tried two of them out and they were awesome!

Well I will write more soon. I'm excited to Blog. It's like journaling, but cooler!

Our Adventure Begins

Alright, so I thought it might be fun to Blog since I have a lot of free time on my hands right now. Tom & I just arrived to Lancaster PA yesterday and today is Tom's first day selling. We are living in an apartment with some other people who are also selling and so far it has been pretty fun. Tom will be working Monday through Saturday, noon to 10 pm. So I will be working on a lot of different projects to fill up my time.

Driving to PA was a lot of fun! First we left our first home in Rexburg and set off to Washington. Here is the view of our sweet storage unit, where we left all our stuff.

In Tri-Cities we enjoyed spending time with family. We were only there one full day... but it was still really nice! We left Molly (my cat) with my parents and headed off on our journey across America.

On our way through Washington we were able to visit Jon's family in spokane, stop #1. Here is a picture of sweet Liam waving goodbye to us.

That night we made stop #2 at Josh's House in Billings Montana. They were nice enough to let us stay the night at their home which was great. Monday morning Josh gave us a tour of the family property and then we were off to Stop #3 Sioux City Iowa.

This is a picture of my strong husband who showed how strong he was at a gas station.

We spent the night at a hotel in Iowa and then headed to Stop #4 Melissa & JW's House. It was so great to see Baby Cooper! We ended up having sooooo much fun with them, that we decided to stay an extra day :)

On Thursday, we headed to Lancaster. It felt like time was going so slow on our last leg of the trip. But we made it! This is a Picture of Tom, after driving across the USA we were exhausted! (Notice how packed our car was? Lol...) But we finally made it to PA, so our lives are much happier :)

We made it to Lancaster. Looks like we'll be sleeping on an air mattress for the next couple months :S, but other than that the apartment is great. This is going to be an adventure for sure!
